over. Now the Olympics themselves aren't a monarchical
event but there is still some royal news to report.

Princess Anne Gets A Surprise

Olympics. She was on hand to present
the gold medals for rugby to the
winning Fijian team. As Princess Anne
handed out the gold medals each
member of the Fijian team knelt down
out of respect and clapped three times.
Clapping three times is part of the
Kava Ceremony signifying the
bringing together of two families.
Princess Anne is a former Olympian
herself, having won gold at the 1971
Olympics. More recently she has served various roles on
the International Olympic Committee.
The Imperial Flag Of Brazil

flags flying in Rio de Janeiro
should not come as a surprise.
However, eagle-eyed viewers
might have seen a flag not quite
like the others:
a coup installed a republican dictatorship. The flag above is
the one that was used during that period. The current
difficulties in Brazil has led to an increase in support for
restoring the empire which is seen by some as a bright point
in Brazil's history.
